Abstract

A copy of a letter, 1800, from Middleton's grandmother to her daughter commenting on social life and various individuals in Jamaica (original in the South Carolina Historical Society); and Middleton's diary kept while American chargé d'affiares in Madrid, describing the Carlist War in 1837. The diary has been published in the Southern Quarterly, vol. 7 (April and July, 1969).
